When it comes to determining that you are suffering with ovarian cysts some of the symptoms are a bigger indicator than others. If you're suffering from more than one symptom regularly then it's definitely time to see your doctor whereas just one symptom could be something else that you should keep an eye on, and/or go and see your doctor about.
A change in you menstrual cycle can be an indication that something is not right especially if you've had regular periods up until that time. If you're suffering from any changes such as bleeding between your periods, irregularity in the times of your periods, excessive bleeding during them and weight gain your chances of suffering from cysts are increased.
Just one of these symptoms won't be a sign that you are suffering from cysts of the ovaries such as bleeding between your periods. This could be a sign that you could have an internal injury or a vaginal infection. If you suspect something is wrong, if you're experiencing one symptom then there's nothing wrong in going to see your doctor for a conformation.
Pressure pain is another sign that cysts could be present. The cysts can grow till they burst so the pressure that builds up in them can cause pelvic and/or abdominal pain. Sexual intercourse and strenuous exercise can also bring on pelvic pain that can spread to the lower back and thighs.
Sufferers of ovarian cysts can also suffer from symptoms that are similar to those in pregnancy. If you've been suffering from the cysts for a while you should be able to tell that your symptoms are coming from them and not pregnancy. If you are unsure then you should see your doctor or at least take a home pregnancy test.
Ovarian cysts can disappear after a few months for some women, but other women will need medical treatment if they persist. If you're suffering from severe pain with vomiting then you need to seek medical advice as soon as possible.
Surgery may be needed if the pain is too unbearable, and if the cysts continue to grow through several menstrual cycles. For most women though, ovarian cysts don't need any treatment as they go away on their own, and they don't cause any health risks.
Because it is very difficult to correctly diagnose the cysts most are detected when the sufferer goes for a PAP smear. These are done annually for women under 30 years of age.
