To build your own cannabis vaporizer, all you really need to know are some basic concepts about what the vaporizer should actually do. There are many ways to design the device and a number of choices as far as the parts you can use to build it. A good structural model to follow to get you started is the structural design of a vaporizer similar to a volcano. The basic components of this type of homemade vaporizer are the heating element, fan, bowl with plunger, balloon bag, and valve set. All of these components can be purchased inexpensively from a retail store.

As long as you keep to the basics concepts of how a vaporizer works, you can use as much or as little creativity in the design of your homemade vaporizer as you would like. The heating element should allow a temperature between 180 and 210 degrees Fahrenheit and also have a fan that can be set very low. One example might be a small household heat gun with a blower unit. These you can find at any hardware store. You need the heat to be in this range to release the THC from your cannabis and not heat it to the point of burning the plant.

To vaporize your cannabis, you will need some type of container attached to the heating element. Depending on your choice of heating unit, you can fashion a cylinder to attach to the device at the point where hot air exits the unit. The cylinder should have a net like material on one end to allow air to flow through and open on the other end so that it can be attached to the heating device. It should fit snug, so keep this in mind when determining the size of the cylinder. Use some type of plunger inside the cylinder to hold the ground cannabis in place, again, allowing air to flow.

To capture the vapor once the cannabis is heated, you will need a balloon bag to hold the vapors. The size of the bag is based on personal preference. A good example of a sturdy bag would be an oven bag used for cooking. These are easily purchased from a grocery store. On the open end of the bag, you should fashion and attach another cylinder that is slightly larger in diameter than the one used to hold the cannabis. This cylinder should fit snugly over the first one. The two cylinders together make up the valve set of your vaporizer and this cylinder will be used as the mouthpiece.

Using these basic concepts, you can build your own homemade cannabis vaporizer easily with very little expense. Keep in mind one safety concern when choosing materials to use in building your vaporizer. Since heat is involved in the process, avoid toxic chemicals found in certain glues and paint. Heating these can create hazardous fumes, so choose non-toxic substances. Good luck and happy vaporizing!
