A body's defense against foreign invaders, whether germs or chemicals, is to produce antibodies. Practically anything we touch or eat can cause a reaction in someone. Some environmental components that can cause reactions are: Gas, oil, air pollution, formaldehyde, chlorine, hair sprays. body lotions, soaps, bamboo, treated fabric that you sit on (always wash new clothes when you buy them) and shampoos, plus household cleaning products. Laundry detergent often makes us sneeze so that's also a possible cause of chemical allergies. Fortunately these days, more manufacturers are producing products that are more eco-friendly and therefore, more friendly towards the allergy sufferer as well.

Skin reactions to chemicals can run from mild to severe. They can be itchy, or even run to a severe rash with blisters. There are also other possible reactions to chemicals. Stuffy nose, asthma, bronchitis are the breathing reactions often caused by chemicals. Reaction time can be from immediate to up to about twenty four hours after encountering the chemical. There are supplements you can take as well as the avoidance ones, or substitution of organic and chemical free products may work also.

Vitamin A can be taken at a rate of 50,000 IU for ten days, then reduced by half. This is the adult dosage. A good vitamin B complex is essential as allergies hinder the absorption of vitamin B. Vitamin C helps protect the body from allergens. Zinc, selenium and garlic can also be taken. For the proper dosage a person should check out reference materials on vitamins and minerals. Manganese interacts with zinc and copper so be sure and read the label to be safe. And the following herbs are helpful in dealing with chemical allergies: Chamomile, elder flower, tea tree oil and calendula.

Most of the above listed supplements help boost the immune system. This is the first step in overcoming allergies. Vitamins and supplements can be found in a vitamin shop, over the counter pharmacy section and in a virtual store online. Another way to help combat chemical allergies is the organic or natural route. You can take a magnifying glass with you to the various stores and check all of the ingredients. It's a safe bet that anything labeled "organic" will be okay, as will most labeled "natural".
