It seems like America has turned into one big cigarette. The number of people that light up everyday is literally in the millions and the numbers do not seem to be coming down very much at all. With the latest tax increase that was applied to cigarettes, you would think that the amount of people lighting up would be falling out of the sky in numbers. But the truth is,the industry has not slowed any at all when the tax increase did take full effect both federal and state. The price of a pack of cigarettes more than double in price once again.
Smoking cigarettes could be the hardest addiction there is known to man. To just say those words no more smoking sends some people in a panic. Only 1 out every 10 people that try to quit smoking cigarettes actually succeed in their attempt to put them down for good sooner or later. This is a number that has to be reduced in future to ever have the chance to stop this killer from continuing to grow. This product is legal to buy, sell, and produce all over the world. There seems to be no way that this giant will ever fall, because it is the biggest tax revenue besides gasoline. But the biggest factor of all, it is the choice of the individual themselves to choose to smoke and as long as there are buyers, there will be sellers.
This industry should be taxed heavy as well as the smokers themselves. The people who smoke cigarettes are the ones that need help, not more taxes; after all the smokers are heavily taxed and also heavily addicted to a product that should not even be on the market. The chemicals that go into cigarettes are extremely bad for your lungs, not to mention the money that just a single smoker uses in one year is enough to pay down on a new vehicle. There are a lot of programs out there to teach young kids about the true facts of smoking. So if the children are learning not to smoke, adults should be trying to figure out which way they are going to quit.
After every thing that has been exposed about cigarettes in the last ten years or more, it would seem that people would finally start finding a way to save their health before it is to late. So if you know someone who smokes cigarettes, give them the encouragement to kick the habit and quit for good.
