In the course of acne breakout, acne medicine is the answer. There are various types of acne medicine some can be done within the four corners of your home, others, purchased from drugstores. Whatever these are, there is certainly one that best suits you.

Take note that one product may work for a person but not for another. It is just a matter of weighing which of these products you think would give you the results you want. From a wide array of acne medicine, you could build your options.

Types of acne medicine

Acne medicine takes different forms and you should not confuse one from the other. Here is a list of how you can differentiate acne medicine:

Hormone therapy. These are products like oral contraceptives that contain estrogen. This is used by many women as an effective acne treatment. They help suppress the overactive sebaceous glands in order not to secrete too much oil.

Topical antimicrobials. These are the types of products which take the form of a cream, gel, lotion, solutions and foam. Topical means something applied externally or directly to the affected surface of the body. Creams and lotions provide moisture and prevent the skin from drying out. Gels and solutions, on the other hand aid in drying and is well-loved by people who have oily skin.

Topical Retinoids. This type of acne medicine is used for mild and moderately severe acne. They are effective in preventing dead skin cells from clogging the pores.

Oral antibiotics. They are recommended for moderate to severe and persistent acne. They help reduce inflammation of the affected surface as it attacks the main cause of acne which is called the Propionibacterium acnes. Take note, that only your doctor can recommend oral antibiotics for you.

Combination products. Combination products are understood to be a fusion of different anti-acne medications and are perceived to be quite convenient on the person concerned. A usual type of combination made is benzoyl peroxide mixed with an antibiotic. Benzoyl peroxide, when combined with antibiotics such as clindamycin and erythromycin, enhances the effectiveness of penetrating the skin to reduce inflammation. It also reduces the risk of the person resisting to the antibiotic.

Finding the right acne medicine

There are some matters to consider in finding the right acne medicine for you. Sometimes you have to ask yourself if you have to take over-the-counter medication or a prescription would be better. You may also take into account which of these products could yield the most effective results. For those who have multiple causes of acne, you may also ask if a single product could cure the acne rather than buying multiple acne medicine. In all cases, you must think twice before going for the acne medicine.
