Human Growth Hormone often claims to be an "elixir of youth' because it can allegedly make people look significantly younger, especially with improvement in the skin and hair. This is because when we age our skin naturally becomes drier, thins out, and also loses its elasticity. A study was able to show that with HGH replacement therapy men could have an increased thickness of hair 7.1% on average. However the study failed to mention that one could have excess unwanted hair in areas you wouldn't want hair to be in the first place. In other words the HGH treatment is not selective as to the area where one should have hair, which is part of the risk one takes.

The improvements in the skin texture and appearance in the growth of more hair was usually noticed within just a few weeks of starting the HGH replacement therapy. The benefits to the skin included the disappearance of fine lines, recession of deep wrinkles, a decrease of fat in the face, less puffy eyes, and strengthening facial muscles that made the skin much more strong and toned looking. Yet another benefit is the reduction or elimination of cellulite. Most of this can be contributed to the increase in collagen production as well as the strength of the collagen that is produced.

However, what they failed to mention was the fact that it is illegal to market HGH to the buying public as an anti-aging drug. HGH is a sensitive treatment that is only FDA approved for a few treatments that include, Human Growth Hormone Deficiency, Turner's syndrome, Chronic renal insufficiency, Intrauterine growth retardation, Prader-Willi syndrome, Continued height deficit at puberty, and Cachexia. Therefore taking a look at such a short list, it clearly does not include anti-aging as viable for use with HGH. For most people this fact alone should be enough to raise alarm bells, but pitifully such facts are often disregarded if only for the opportunity to look and feel younger, but at what expense?

What these unscrupulous manufacturers fail to see is that they are endangering people's lives by providing them only with the information that they would like to hear but fail to inform them of the variety and seriousness of possible health risks and side effects. The unwanted hair mentioned above is only the tip of the iceberg. There are many more side effects that are worth mentioning such as development of diabetes, muscle pains and swelling, possible development of various types of cancer, and many more. But even with this list alone people should be worried and take the necessary precautions.

Human Growth Hormone treatments have been available for quite awhile yet people continue to be misinformed. Hopefully concrete steps are taken to address this growing problem that is sure to affect the lives of a lot of people. For instead of being the elixir of youth, one could end up dying while still in their youth.
