Retaining water in your body is not good for you because it can cause swelling and bloating. Wake up in the morning and drink 8 oz glasses or bottles through out the day so you will get the right amount that you need to keep your body working right. Do not drink water too fast, that is also not good for you. Your body will slowly put the water in your system and if you drink it too fast your body will not get it all.
