Many health experts are unsure of the exact risks, as there has yet to be enough research to conclusively state if they are healthier than conventional cigarettes or not, although many have used the device as a means to actually quit smoking.
Basically, the electronic cigarette, if used in small increments, can work in a manner similar to the patch. In other words, the smoker smokes a little bit with the electronic cigarette, and throughout the time using it, they smoke a little less with each time until they have finally weened themselves from it. So it can be used as a quit smoking device, although you should probably do some independent research on the topic before you decide to buy one for yourself or a family member. It is also important for you to remember to do research, not only on the health factors, but on whether or not those who used it are satisfied. Although most users are, there may have been a smoker out there similar to you who did not enjoy it, so you should do some independent research and figure out if you should buy it or not.
