It can mean different things to different people. It can be experienced with having three or fewer bowel movements in a week or it can be that the stool is hard, dry, painful and very much difficult to pass. Some may even experience a lack of energy, feel full and bloated. What I am talking about? I am talking about constipation. It happen when the stool passes slowly through the large intestines., when it stays on the large intestines for too long, when the intestine remove too a good deal of water and lastly when the stool is hard and dry.

Constipation must not be mistaken if people don't have bowel movement every day since different people have different bowel habits. Lifestyle habits that can contribute in causing constipation are a change of your normal diet, exercise and travel habits, eating food that has low fiber, feeling a lot of stress, ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement, not drinking enough liquids, taking of medicines such as painkillers that contains codeine, diuretics, taking of medicines for depressions and antacids and taking of calcium or iron supplements.

Now, if you are suffering from this ailment these days or know someone who has then these tips may help you in dealing with it. Tip number one would be to eat more fiber. Fiber always helps in forming soft, bulky stools that makes it easy for bowel movements. Good sources of fiber would be apples, peaches, prunes, oranges, pears, cabbage and black eyed peas. Foods that have no small amount of fiber are pizza, ice cream, cheese, snacks like chips, meat, mashed potatoes and frozen dinners.

Another way to end this ailment is through digestive enzymes. Digestive enzymes are proteins that are used by the body to break down food in order to convert into nutrients. Our bodies produce around 22 different kinds of digestive enzymes which act on different types of foods. Enzymes can also be found in fruits, vegetables, meats and other foods. Enzymes can also be taken as supplements which are produced from plants and animals.

As supplements, digestive enzymes is used to treat a lot of digestive complaints such as constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, gas, bloating and heartburn. Serious conditions that have been treated by digestive enzymes are IBS, colitis and Crohn's disease.

Then another way to treat it is by drinking plenty of water and other liquids like vegetable and fruit juices and soups. Liquids to avoid would be those that contain caffeine and alcohol. Though liquids have less effect on stool formation, drinking a lot of liquids is still important because dehydration can cause constipation.

So remember, when constipation attacks, fiber, digestive enzymes and liquids are the best solution. Good luck!
