How many calories should I eat per day to lose weight? Well, the truth is that diets based on counting calories are among the least successful diet plans on the face of the planet! Don't believe me? Then read on to discover why calorie counting does not work!

Those low-calorie foods and diet plans you see in the grocery store are very expertly devised. The weight loss industry does its homework. They know everyone is looking for an easy, fast, stress-free way to lose weight. So they try and provide the "magic pill" but after a while, you will see the dangers of the low calorie myth!

Low calorie diets and foods always sound great at first. And I won't deny it. They will work for the first few weeks, without a doubt. You'll lose the weight and that's how they get you hooked on these products. But then comes the truth. These foods are specially designed to make you lose that initial weight but the manufacturers are very aware of the fact that you and your body will not be able to sustain that low level of daily calorie intake.

Your body, different than anyone else's, has its own "quota" of calories it needs to meet everyday. It's extremely hard, nearly impossible, for a commercial company to even try and guess what that number is because they don't know you! Your physician might be able to figure out a good range for you but that's only because your physician knows your health history. So for these companies to claim they can provide you with just enough calories for you to lose weight, well that's a plain lie.

These low calorie food products will, like I mentioned, help you to lose weight initially because your body, without food to burn, will burn body fat. This isn't because it's in weight loss mode. Actually, in the beginning, your body is beginning the starvation mode. This is when your body naturally, without any direction, will start to use your body fat as an energy source because it isn't given enough energy through the food you eat, or lack of food in this case. Well, that may sound nice to you because, hey you're burning body fat, just what you wanted.

But here's the little twist: your body needs to get daily nutrients and minerals that you will not get through a low calorie diet. Supplements do not provide the necessary nutrients and minerals in the right form for your body to use. Pills and capsules are not natural and aren't digested efficiently by your body.

What's worse is that if you continue with low calorie foods and this type of diet, you will begin to lose muscle mass. This is completely self-defeating if you are serious about losing weight and maintaining overall well-being! You are now unable to control what it is your body is burning because you've lost control of what it is that you're providing your body! You're not eating whole foods, so your body doesn't get the necessary building blocks it needs. You need muscle to burn fat effectively so letting your body burn muscle mass is completely pointless and very dangerous.

The better and safer way to lose weight is by exercising regularly (3-4 times a week for 15-20 minutes each) and eating 5-6 small meals a day. Small meals do not include junk food! Small meals are foods high in protein, healthy fats, fiber and carbohydrates. And yes, your body needs healthy fats and carbohydrates!

By using this method, you are fulfilling your daily calorie intake at a healthy and safe level and your burning fat through exercise while maintaining great overall health! It's an unbeatable method and should be used by everyone who is serious about losing weight and who wants to be healthy and strong enough to enjoy life!
