You have to watch any fire you build even outside because the smoke that it releases can carry many dangerous things that can harm you depending on what you are burning. There could be toxins in the smoke from what ever you are burning and some of the toxins can be much worse than others. You will need to wear mask over your mouth and nose to keep the toxins from getting in your lungs. Do not put a too fire near your house so the smoke will not cause smoke damage to the outside and the inside as well.

Keep kids away from the area and far away from the smoke. Have your kids stay inside or at least a safe distance away from what you are burning. Smoke from the fire can cause many problems with your health. Smoke can damage your lungs, your sinuses, burn your eyes, and give you a headache. You have to take safety precautions when you are around smoke. Do not burn things like old tires, plastics, or glass. All of these things can be recycled and some could give off deadly fumes. If you do not know where to take these types of things to be recycled, you might try contacting your nearest sanitation department for a list of places that except tires, plastics, etc.

Do not get too close to the fire because the heat off the smoke can burn your skin. People who live in rural areas that do not have a garbage pickup service have to find a way to dispose of their own trash and this can sometimes be a problem. So you will want to be very careful and watch what you are doing. When you start it up move as far away from it as you can and be still be able to keep an eye on it so the smoke will not get to you. Always make sure you have an ample water supply ready in case the fire gets out of control. It is better to make a compost pile with your yard debris instead of burning it. Homemade compost is useful in your yard and prevents unnecessary burning.

You must always remember whenever you build an outdoor fire whether it is at your home or somewhere else while you are camping, you must use extreme care. You could end up causing damage to your home, or your neighbor. You could start a wildfire that could end up destroying thousands of acres of land and the wildlife and people who live there.
