If you are looking for a natural remedy to alleviate migraine pain without the common side effects of many prescription and over-the-counter medicines, there are a few options. The best alternative is the use of essential lavender oil in a vaporizer. The natural lavender plant is a species of plant found in the mint family and has many healing properties as an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and a calming aroma. It is believed that the calming aroma of vaporized lavender provides the primary healing qualities to aid in the alleviation of headaches, especially migraines.

The lavender plant is a flowering plant and it is the flower of the plant that lends itself as a popular herbal home remedy. This is due to the fact that the flower petals have a somewhat sweet, floral aroma. The pleasant aroma of the petals creates a sense of relaxation and has a calming effect on the body. It is this attribute that allows the constricted blood vessels most often associated with a migraine headache to loosen and begin the free flowing of blood through the vessels. This, in turn, diminishes the pain associated with the migraine.

To use lavender in a vaporizer, one should be aware of the proper use of the herb in the device. Place the lavender in the vaporizer and heat it just to the desired temperature. Overheating will destroy the plant and it's healing ingredients and under heating will not provide a vapor with enough density of lavender. Either situation will cause undesirable results and add no benefit to the relief of headache symptoms. Once the correct temperature is reached, the vapor can be inhaled.

Lavender is one of most popular plants used to create essential oils. To do this correctly, the right temperature must be reached to vaporize the plant material. To reach the maximum concentration of lavender in the vapor, the vaporizer should be set at a temperature of 266 degrees Fahrenheit. At this point, the plant releases the active ingredients that create the aroma given off by the vapor.

The best use of lavender vapor is to capture it in a balloon or bag and inhale the vapor directly. It is feasible to use the lavender in a room vaporizer but this provides mainly room freshening from the floral scent. For the best results, once the vapor is captured in the balloon, inhale the vapor in small doses and allow the vapor to penetrate the lungs and enter the bloodstream. Slowly and steadily inhale and exhale a few times to gain maximum benefit. After an hour or so, the process can be repeated if necessary.
