When it concerns impotence there is a piece of good news for most men in that fewer than twenty percent of males have this problem which means that there is a good chance that you will not need to worry about this problem during your lifetime. Furthermore, there is enough evidence to suggest that psychological impotence is a problem that only affects between ten and twenty percent of males. Still, given the fact that every male attaches a lot of importance to being virile and sexually strong the mere fact that he could be suffering from psychological impotence can give rise to many feelings of anxiety and frustration and also depression that are an indirect reaction to being diagnosed with psychological impotence.
Erectile Dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction or impotence means that a male is unable to maintain their erections sufficiently long to have proper sexual intercourse and it can even mean that some males might not be able to achieve erection even after sexual stimulation or they might lose their erection even before ejaculation.
The brain plays a pivotal role in helping a male achieve erection and it can in turn also prevent an erection. Whenever the brain during the process of sending certain impulses to the penis transmits a negative message instead of a positive one certain chemicals will be released that will constrict the penis's blood vessels thereby inhibiting the natural erection process. This then leads to impotence.
Another way of calling , psychogenic impotence is a condition that arises whenever males have feelings of being inadequate and who are also given to feeling anxiety and guilt as well as are depressed or even bored. All this in turn can lead to the person being unable to achieve or even maintain their erection and the reasons for these inabilities are psychological and not physical.
It is common for most males to experience psychological impotence at least once in their adult lifetimes and so an occasional occurrence of psychological impotence is not a reason to be worried. These isolated instances occur on account of various factors including stress, fatigue or even consumption of excessive alcohol.
The reaction of males who know that they are suffering from psychological impotence often takes the form of feeling much anxiety and this anxiety only helps to exacerbate the problem leading to what is known as the impotence domino effect that comprises anxiety followed by failure followed by new anxiety and then another bout of failure.
The main contributing factors that lead to psychological impotence include depression, medications and also relationship issues as too stress and fatigue.
