You know that mold in a home is a serious issue when it is being talked about on famous television shows. In a recent episode of The Doctors that is on network television, one of the big topics they discussed that day was how this fungus can seriously affect the respiratory system and how hard this the problem can sometimes be to diagnose. One guest developed such a serious condition that she ended up in the emergency room of her local hospital and they actually tested her for a heart attack.
In the end it took her a while longer and talking to someone else before she knew for sure that it was mold in her home that was causing her such terrible breathing problems, pain, and extreme fatigue. This lady is only one of thousands of people every year that develop serious problems from being exposed to mold. Sometimes others will be like her and go for months or longer with symptoms and think that it is a simple allergy of some kind or a recurring cold that they have, only to find out later that these symptoms are caused by a deadly fungus.
If you can see places in your home where there is a black, fuzzy substance growing, it is not so hard to figure out that this might be what is causing your illnesses. Many times it is growing in the home and it will not be visible to the naked eye because it is growing in secluded places you do not see. These areas could be behind walls, baseboards, wood under the floor or in the attic, in your carpet, and even in some appliances. It can be caused by a water leak somewhere in the home or the home can have too much moisture in it because of the climate you live in or poor ventilation in the home.
Once mold starts to grow somewhere and it can continue because there is moisture or a leak constantly helping it grow on the surface it has picked to feed upon, spores will develop and become air born. This is what people breath in that causes them to become sick. It can even come into the home through your heating and air conditioning vents. This is one of the most common ways the spores become air born. It might be necessary to have them cleaned on the inside to eliminate the problem. Make sure your home is ventilated properly by using exhaust fans in bathrooms and in the kitchen when you cook. Your clothes dryer must be vented properly to the outside. If moisture is still a problem because of where you live, you can run a dehumidifier to take the dampness out of the air.
