If you smoke and would like to stop, when would you think is the best time to try and quit? As there is not a good time to start smoking, you are not likely to find a perfect time to stop smoking. Right now is the best time to quit. Anytime later than right now, is not a good time. Smoking cigarettes are nothing but dangerous to you and all those around you and they add to your problems. The smoke from them are bad enough for you and then you are creating second hand smoke for all of the people around you. This means that not only are you headed for the medical problems that come from cigarettes, but you are harming others that are around you when you smoke as well. This is additional stress in your life that you do not need and is completely unnecessary.
If someone tells you it is impossible to quit, do not listen. It is definitely not easy, but you can quit. It will take more time than it did when you started, but it can be done. Even a chain smoker can quit. Some of you can just stop cold-turkey, but this is one of the hardest ways. If you have a lot of stress in your life, this will make the quitting process a lot harder. Any little problem can become bigger when you are trying to quit smoking because you are under so much pressure already. The higher the stress level becomes, the more you are going to want that cigarette.
If you need to, get away from your problems for a while when you plan to try and stop smoking. Find someplace that you can go to go for a few days. A camping trip with no cigarettes is a good way to get over the first few smoke free days. You might think you will go crazy, but you will not. It usually only takes a few days to get nicotine out your system physically, but that does not mean your emotional battle will be over. Once you no longer have the physical craving for nicotine, you have to still deal with not smoking as a habit. You will still want a cigarette with your coffee or when you are on the phone, This is because you have become accustomed to smoking with these things.
The best thing you can do for your mind is to find other things to do with your hands when you crave a cigarette. Go for walks, squeeze a ball, hold a pencil, chew a toothpick, anything except light a cigarette. The more days that go by without smoking, the easier it will become, even though you might still have that occasional urge to smoke, it will be easier with time. You might even eventually discover that when you have stopped smoking, that is one less problem you have to deal with. You will feel healthier and you will have more money. These things alone can make you feel less stressed. Do not be foolish enough to continue waiting for a perfect time to quit because there never is one. Just do it.
