Dental digital radiography provides you with a number of benefits that you do not receive from typical film X-rays traditionally used by dentists. This system is computerized and is therefore far more sophisticated in its ability to detect problems in teeth and gums. This procedure is also called digital dental X-rays, and it is one of our preferred methods of examining patient teeth in fine detail.

The dental digital radiography system begins by capturing an image of your teeth and transmitting it to the screen of a high-resolution monitor. This lets you witness live, close-up video images of your teeth while your dentist is examining your mouth. You do not have to wait for the lab to develop images, but instead you can see everything as it happens from the comfort of the dental chair. Your dentist can actually pause when he or she finds a problem area, explain the nature of the problem, and recommend solutions.

They images that are produced by dental radiography look like standard X-rays, but they are much, much larger. Because the system itself is computerized, the dentist can operate it just like any standard computer interface. By clicking on a mouse, he or she can magnify an image up to 400 times. A single tooth can be examined in the finest of detail, its image rotated, sharpened, and even colorized to make it appear as lifelike as possible to the patient. This will ultimate give you a much better understanding of what your dentist finds in your mouth.

These color images can then be downloaded and printed as hardcopies for you to take home. This is often done by patients who are facing decisions about multiple possible treatment options that the dentist will recommend.

To take X-Rays using a dental radiography system, the dentist will start by placing a very flat, small sensor in the mouth that is connected by a thin wire to the main computer. The machine then transmits an X-ray beam directly through the teeth and into the sensor. The sensor records the image of your teeth, and then feeds it back to the computer. The remote system can be placed anywhere in your mouth to take fine-resolution images of your teeth.

Dental digital radiography is a fantastic time saver. Office visits take far less time to finish because you do not have to wait for your X-rays to be developed. This system is also much better for your health, because it uses 90 percent fewer X-rays than standard photographic methods require. Because you will be exposed to far less radiation, dental digital X-rays are far better for your health.

The large images and colorization capabilities of this system also make it more true to life to patients who want to see their teeth as the dentist sees them. Such a window into medical science enables you to better understand why certain procedures are recommended for different conditions. There is also an environmental benefit to this service as well, as it produces no toxic by-products.
