Is Right Now The Time For You To Stop Smoking Cigarettes

What are you waiting on? Do you think it will be easier to try and stop smoking tomorrow? You know it will not be. You will wake up and your cigarettes will likely be lying close at hand and that undeniable urge to light one up will hit you like a tome of bricks just like it always does. Your feet might not even be on the floor before you reach for them. You will head for the coffee pot with one already between your fingers just like any other day of the week. So, no, tomorrow will not be easier.

You might not have the strength to lay them down right this minute, but what you do have to do is take a first step. Any step. Start today, right now, to start cutting back. It does not mean you can not have one at all, just start preparing yourself to quit. Every cigarette you do not smoke is a good thing. Starting right now instead of later will start your healing process even if it is a tiny step.

The next step is to pick up the phone and make an appointment with your doctor. He or she has probably been hounding you to quit anyway, so he or she will be glad to see you as soon as possible. When you go to your appointment, get checked over as usual and then talk to your doctor seriously about quitting. Let the doctor give you several suggestions as to what way might be best for you to try. It will be up to you to figure out which method you want to try, but you should know the facts before you choose.

If you choose to use one of the pills that have recently come on the market, you need to know the side affects that are involved. There could be problems if you have a bad reaction to them such as some emotional problems you might not have experienced before. You can continue to smoke while you use these, but they are supposed to diminish the cravings so you are able to be smoke free in a matter of a couple of months. You must decide if the side affects that accompany this particular method are worth the risks.

You can not smoke while you use nicotine patches. At least you are not supposed to. If you use nicotine gum, you can smoke, but it really defeats the purpose of using it. Quitting cold turkey can be so difficult. Most people do not succeed this way. What you will have to have in order to stop smoking is willpower. You can not buy willpower in a box or package. You might just try smoking less and less every few days. Some people are successful this way because you are stepping down from smoking gradually the same way you started smoking, a little at a time.
