Yeast infections are something that many women have to deal with on a regular basis. They can show up at almost anytime, whether you are sexually active or not. Yeast is not abnormal in women, but some women simply develop more of the fungus than others. Yeast infections, or Candida as it is also referred to, can be caused and intensified by several factors, some can be avoided and some can not. If you suffer from this condition frequently, you should always consult your doctor and find out the best ways to treat your particular condition. Some treatments might require medications prescribed by a physician and then there are some simple things you can do that might help prevent them at all.
When yeast infections are caused from taking certain medications, like antibiotics, the condition might go away after you have finished whatever drug you have been taking. If the medication is something that you are going to have to be on long term, then your doctor will be able to tell you how to deal with the yeast until you can stop the medication. Yeast infections caused by taking medications or even oral contraceptives are usually unavoidable. Changing to a different oral contraceptive or not taking them at all could reduce or eliminate recurring yeast infections.
When there is yeast present already, sometime things like wearing clothing that is too tight in the vaginal area can cause excessive warmth and moisture. This can cause the yeast to grow and eventually lead to an infection. Some women are also more prone to yeast infections when they take a bath in a tub as opposed to showering. Some women have even said that sleeping with no underwear on at night helps them to stay drier and reduces the infections they have. It is important to wear underwear that breath better, like cotton fabrics. It allows more air to get to the vagina and can reduce heat and moisture.
Of course, these are just things that you might be able to do that will decrease the chances of getting an infection in the first place. Staying clean and dry is just common sense, but for many women it is just not that simple. If you are not able to control the number or severity of the yeast infections you get, then you must see your doctor. Even though disease caused by yeast infections is fairly rare, it can happen. Transmission of a yeast infection to a male partner is also not very likely, but it can happen and cause them irritation and discomfort as well.
