Especially in cold season, you might have noticed your lips being dry, rough and cracked. If you are ignoring some care on your lips, be careful, as you might be starting to develop angular cheilitis. Angular cheilitis is a condition where is a split in the corner of your mouth which sometimes bleed in severe cases. So before you get intro the trouble of developing a severe cheilitis, take time for a chapped lips treatment and know how to prevent them.

Lips that are chapped, dry and cracked obviously need moisture. Most often, we sometimes lick it to provide moisture but medical experts say you could be making the condition worst, as saliva can start more bacterial or fungal infections that may led to cracks at the corner of the mouth - or angular cheilitis.

Most often, the chapping of the lips may be due to exposure to cold dry air, the wind and the sun. If your body is not hydrated well, it can also drain the moisture needed in your lips and results to chapping. It can also occur if you are allergic to some components of your lipstick or some acne medication. Deficiencies in Vitamin B12, iron and zinc have been also linked to the formation of severe lip cracking and angular cheilitis.

Without seeking any chapped lips treatment, you may continue to feel discomfort while your lips may develop severe chapping and start to get sore and painful. Before making it worst, it is always wise to seek for treatment. You can also find home remedies and easy chapped lips treatment. There are also simple things you can avoid to make your chapped lips treatment effective.

* Do not lick your lips. This may be what most people resort to instantly soothe the condition, but it is important to always keep in mind not to do this when you are having chapped lips to avoid the problem to worsen.

* Use a lip balm or cream to soothe your lips and lock the moisture on it. You may want to avoid flavored lip balms so you will also avoid licking them. It is also wise to choose from natural lip balms and creams to get rid of the side effects.

* Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water to keep your body as well as your lips hydrated.

* Get rid of your lipstick. If you think you are being allergic to some components of your lipstick, get rid of it. Choose a hypoallergenic lip cosmetic if you really need one.

* Do not get too much exposure to the sun. Again, the sun can cause your lips to dry so you might as well too much exposure under the sun and avoid being sunburned. As you apply sunscreen to protect your skin, choose a lip balm with sunscreen as well to protect your lips.

* Consult a doctor. If you think you have a severe case and any of the chapped lips treatment and home remedies do not seem to help, it is always wise to consult a medical expert to see your condition. Do not experiment with medications and ointment by yourself, especially that it concerns the lips and the mouth.
