If you are looking at what dyslexia actually is, then you should look at it as a language-based disability that affects an individual's ability to learn. And, this disability will affect a whole host of different parts that will mean a person is unable to write, read and comprehend text, whether this is in paper form or on screen.

However, just because this type of disability is linked with learning, it does not mean that an individual who is dyslexic will be less intelligent that the next person. In fact, studies have shown that dyslexic individuals have an intelligence ranging from average to above average. Also, these individuals should be provided with enough support so they can overcome any difficulties they may have - if they do not, then they could come demotivated and lose their accuracy and fluency of language use.

It means that their disabilities are not necessarily a hindrance in the path of their academic success. In fact, it is not an exaggeration to say that adult dyslexia is all about a problem with reading and writing and it has nothing to do with the smartness or intelligence of the person.

In most of the cases, dyslexics have been found to be very talented people in different creative fields. The list of such exceptionally talented people includes Leonardo Da Vinci, Tom Cruise, and many others. Dyslexics are gifted people. It is just that they read more slowly and differently.

A thorough research and study of different dyslexia symptoms have shown that the intensity of such neurological disorder varies from person to person. Sometimes, proper care and motivation helps the person to easily overcome all the problems that are associated with reading and writing. In some other cases, it may take a much longer time to actually improve the learning experience. This is because of some particular wiring in the brain. The brain of a dyslexic is wired up differently. They have to work harder to perform the same task that others do relatively easily.

When a dyslexic person reads any form of language, you will find that the posterior regions in their brain will become active, but the anterior brain regions will become overactive.

The reason this occurs is due to variations in the activity of these posterior brain regions and is something that doctors will use to distinguish dyslexic adults from others. However, the variations in learning disability and intelligence levels are not affected by this, so we can consider this positive news and that there is always a solution to the problems faced.

But, there is an important point in the above - that it is important an individual be diagnosed with dyslexia early in life, because if the problems go undetected and are not treated, then they could become worse. Also, there are a number of different tests to determine adult dyslexia and these can be used to clearly identify whether an individual has the condition.

Once identified, special treatments (which usually include proper support, encouragement and motivation) can help. The moment a person with adult dyslexia stops feeling that he or she is not isolated or rejected, half of the problem is already solved.

If you want to see if an individual actually has dyslexia then they will need to undergo a series of tests to determine if they have the condition. These tests do not form any part of a medical procedure and will purely evaluate if the individual shows the signs and symptoms of the condition so that they can be diagnosed with dyslexia. Also, you should be aware that adult dyslexia is a serious condition, but there are many thousands of people throughout the country working with it every day.
