Most of us will suffer from neck pain, back pain or sciatica at some point in our lives. For some of us, neck and back problems will be an ongoing problem and even become so severe that is becomes a disabling problem. It is often a source of embarrassment and shame as others don't understand what we are going through. We are often told to suck it up or deal with it. They don't understand that it can be disabling and that it really does affect every part of our lives.

A bad back or neck can be caused by many things including tightening muscles, muscle imbalances, herniated discs, weak muscles, pregnancy, and even stress. The pain can be aggravated by daily activities. Injuries can be the result of turning wrong, moving wrong, sitting too long or just sleeping weird. It is often frustrating and confusing.

What people don't realize is that your neck contains nerves, muscles, bones, veins, and arteries, as well as many ligaments and other supporting structures. Your head is supported solely by your neck. This makes your neck extremely susceptible to injury. In many cases, neck injury is due to strain or tension. Occasionally, it is due to whiplash from car accidents or some other sudden trauma. It really doesn't matter what the cause is. If your neck hurts, it is more than just a pain in the neck. It is something that needs to be treated.

When your neck or back hurts, it is a sign of something else wrong. If the pain does not go away after a day or two you may want to consider seeking treatment. If the pain is severe, you may not want to wait a day or two before seeking treatment. When you go to the doctor or chiropractor, the first thing they will ask you to do is describe the pain. Normally, this means describing it in terms of throbbing, shooting, tingling, stinging, dull, numbing, pulsating, cramping or burning. They will also ask you to rate your pain on a scale from 1 to 10. 1 is the least somewhere along the lines of bumping into desk. 10 is the worst pain you could possibly imagine. If you are reading this, then I doubt you are at a 10. Chances are if you are at a 10 you would already be at the emergency room, but it is possible.

The next step is getting accurately diagnosed. Generally, this means a series of questions and tests. A complete medical history is normally followed by either a MRI or x-rays or sometimes both. Then a doctor or a chiropractor will make a diagnosis. In most cases, physical therapy will be prescribed.

If you choose a chiropractor through Heath Source Chiro, then you can receive Progressive Rehab. Progressive Rehab combines cutting edge rehabilitation technology with modern fast acting chiropractic techniques. It focuses in on the painful areas and figures out why you are in pain. Then it designs a unique plan to relieve the pain and to keep you pain free.
