Headaches are painful. Headaches account for some of the most common reasons that patients make a visit to their physician. Headaches can, at best, make tasks difficult and at its very worst can make life seem unbearable. Sometimes you can't see. You have sensitivity to light. You might not even be able to get out of bed.
Headaches can range from being a minor throb to a bedridden incapacitation. Your first trip may be to your primary care doctor who may tell you to just take 2 aspirin and call him in the morning. The problem with this is that the aspirin may only give you temporary relief and only mask the symptoms of the true problems that you have. You will need to find someone that can help you get to the source of your chronic headaches issue.
Even though Chiropractic has been in practice for well over 100 years, many people are still unaware of how effective it is in treating headache disorders. Perhaps, you may know of someone that has gone to a chiropractor to get relief from back pain but did not think to consider that that same chiropractor can also help to rid you of your headaches.
Why do headaches occur?
You might be wondering why it is that you even get headaches in the first place. There are numerous reasons. Some of them are lack of sleep; certain medications can induce headaches, sinus congestion, exposure to chemicals, tension in the back of your neck and upper back and/or misalignment of the cervical spine.
When should you see your chiropractor?
It might be wise to visit your chiropractor immediately in order to make an assessment of where the origins of the headaches may be coming from. You can inform your chiropractor of any changes in your habit or environment. If you are getting adequate rest and you are not otherwise ill then your chiropractor will probably determine that you need to have work done with your cervical spine.
Adjustments are necessary in order to stimulate change in your spine to correct and restore the curves in your spine. Over time, the curvature in your spine can deteriorate and only your chiropractor can determine if this is the case. Having loss of the curve in your cervical spine can be one reason why you may have chronic headaches. This can be diagnosed and determined through x-rays and other diagnostic tools.
Adjustments to your neck can be a bit daunting if you've never done it before. There may be some "popping" sounds that accompany the adjustment. Do not be alarmed by this. These are simply air pockets that are getting released out of the joints. They are not harmful but can be a shock if you've never heard them before. The chiropractor is extremely skilled and will make certain that the correct amount of pressure is applied in order to restore function and mobility to your neck and thereby helping to get rid of your headaches.
