Back pain is something almost everyone has experienced. Statistics show that most everyone will have experienced back pain at some point in their lives. All of our muscles are interconnected. We can not move one muscle without affecting another. The back is connected to all the major muscle groups in the body. When you have back pain, it affects everything.

Back pain that lasts more than three months would be diagnosed has chronic. But, back pain that is sudden and only lasts for a few days would be characterized as acute. Both types are a nuisance at the very least and debilitating at its worst.

Many people's first plan of attack would be to reach in their medicine cabinet and find the nearest over-the-counter pain reliever. This can usually offer some relief but it leaves you wondering whether or not you are really getting at the core of the problem.

Taking pain relievers never gets to the source of the issues. They are merely a "band-aid" and can only provide temporary relief. They are useful and have their place, but if you want to have real and lasting change you must find a health care provider that will be able to diagnose your problem and give you a course of action that will get you on the road to wellness.

A health care professional that can help to diagnose and treat your back pain problems would be a chiropractor. A chiropractor is someone that has trained extensively on the spine and the musculoskeletal system of the body. A chiropractor has first-hand experience working with people who have acute and chronic back pain in addition to a multitude of other conditions.

The philosophy of chiropractic is that the body has innate desire and capacity to heal itself. It wants homeostasis and balance. The belief is also that the spine's misalignment can have a damaging effect on many other parts of the body. Keeping to these fundamental principles, chiropractors are committed to assisting the body to heal in a drug-free and surgery-free manner.

The chiropractor will perform adjustments to get the body back into alignment. Adjustments are direct and precise pressure on certain areas in order to restore alignment to the spine, hips or cervical area. Adjustments are characteristically not painful, however, people have reported to feeling sore as if they had a long and sustained workout. This is gone after a couple of days.

The chiropractor is a healing practitioner that is concerned with looking at and treating the whole person. You will not be seen as an amalgam of symptoms but rather a dynamic individual with a unique set of issues that can be addressed in a drug-free and non-invasive way. Chiropractic has been gaining much popularity as people are tiring of the "take two aspirin and call me in the morning" approach to health. Chiropractic can provide real and lasting results.
