Headaches can make your life miserable. It is defined as having pain in your upper neck and head. It is one of the most common ailments that we as humans often suffer. Headaches can come on quickly and last for a while or they can be an everyday occurrence for those with chronic problems. Regardless of where people fall in the spectrum they want to find a way to rid themselves of this problem.

One of the most common types of headaches out there are tension headaches. They are caused by the muscles of the neck tensing through spasm or stress. When people have stress their bodies react by tensing the muscles in the body. The areas are usually the neck, head and shoulders. This tension puts stress on the muscles and the result is pain in the neck and head.

Another cause of headaches is poor posture. If your body is slouched over a desk all day this can put enormous strain on your neck muscles. Obesity also contributes to strain on the neck muscles which results in neck pain. Obesity tends to weaken the abdominal muscles which put a strain on the low back. The cervical spine will try to compensate for this imbalance and in doing so puts strain and stress on the neck muscles.

Here are some symptoms to look out for.

-A band of pressure the around the head with the most intense pain resting on the area above the eyebrows
-A feeling of pressure or pain that begins in the back of the head and upper neck.
-Nausea, vomiting or sensitivity to light.
-Pain and pressure on both sides of the head.

You might be happy to know that there is a way to treat headaches that does not entail grabbing the nearest over-the-counter pain reliever. The solution is chiropractic. Chiropractic has been around for over 100 years yet people do not associate them with treating headaches. They are remarkably successful at bringing relief to headache sufferers.

When you go to your primary care physician, he or she may tell you that you need more rest or to simply take an over-the-counter pain reliever and call in the morning. In fact, medical doctors do not acknowledge the link between spinal misalignment and headaches. The two are closely linked.

Your chiropractor will take a thorough medical history, take x-rays and determine which type of treatment regimen will best suit your situation. Chiropractic will not just look at your symptoms of pain in the head but at all areas of your health and physical well-being to find ways to assist. They are holistic doctors looking at the entire individual and not just the symptoms.

Chiropractors do not prescribe drugs. In fact, they prefer a more natural approach to healing believing that the body has an innate ability to heal itself. Chiropractic could make all the difference.
