Since the human body is made of about 55% to 60% water, we know that moisture is vital to human life. We know to drink plenty of water, moisturize the air that we breathe with a vaporizer, and keep our skin hydrated, all to protect ourselves from sickness and to maintain a level of comfort.

What we sometimes overlook, however, is the importance of maintaining a good level of humidity in our homes to protect other things found in our environment. With a vaporizer, we can create proper moisture in the air to care for our furniture and safeguard our valuable artwork.

The furniture in your home benefits greatly from properly controlling the relative humidity in the air with a vaporizer. Especially if you have furniture made of leather, drier air can result in significant moisture loss in the material of sofas and chairs. In loosing moisture, the material becomes dry and can crack or split. The material becomes less pliable and when pressure is applied to the surface, it wears more quickly and is damaged more easily.

The same holds true for wooden furniture such as dining room sets, armoires, desks, and other furniture constructed primarily of wood. The concept of moisturizing furniture can be likened to what happens to dry skin; without enough moisture, the skin cracks and peels. The same thing happens to the surface of furniture in addition to the joints of the furniture becoming loose and structurally breaking down.

For most, artwork is a valuable investment. Though you may have never noticed, the climate in an art gallery is very mild with carefully controlled temperature and humidity. This is not only for the comfort of visitors but primarily to preserve the art. The artwork in your home is no different.

To protect your own valuable pieces, you should maintain a proper level of humidity in your home with a vaporizer. Just as furniture benefits from this, so does your artwork. A good amount of moisture in the air prevents paints and canvases from drying out and cracking, destroying the value of a nice painting.

This is true for many types of pottery and sculpture as well. Clay and other forms of molded sculpture is pliable only because during the process in which it is formed, water is used as a base component. Increasing humidity in the air with a vaporizer maintains a level of moisture in the air to protect the integrity of your valuables.
