'Ouch! My neck hurts!!' You have probably heard that a time or two before. Neck pain is not fun at all. It can start off a little neck strain and turn into a situation where you are not able to turn your neck at all. The pain can also shoot down your neck and into your back. Some have received their neck pain from an injury and others have developed through disease or the aging process. Regardless of how you have come to have neck pain you probably want to find a way to get rid of it quickly.

What causes neck pain?

There are multiple causes for neck pain. Some of these causes can be whiplash from an accident, a herniated disc, pinched nerve or degenerative disc disease. Whiplash is a fairly common injury that usually occurs when someone has been hit in a car from the rear. This injury from car accidents is the most common type of whiplash injury.

A herniated disc is a disc that has ruptured most likely from age or injury. Inside the disc is a soft center and when that center of the disc breaks through its surrounding ring it is referred to as being herniated.

One of the most common areas of the back that is at risk for herniation is the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae in the lower back. This is the area that takes in all of the shock from our everyday exertions and impacts.

A pinched nerve is when a nerve is damaged or injured by having direct pressure put on it. The nerve is unable to perform its normal function in conducting signals.

Degenerative disc disease happens with age. There is cartilage and other fluid between the discs of the vertebrae. As we age the cartilage can break down and become less firm and shows wear and tear.

What can I do about my neck pain?

There is help for your neck pain. Neck pain can be helped by chiropractic. Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that has been around for over a century. The philosophy of chiropractic is one of maintaining wellness through treating disorders in the spine. Chiropractors are musculoskeletal experts.

One other benefit of going to see a chiropractor is that you will not receive any prescription drugs. Chiropractors prefer to take a natural approach to healing. Nor will you have any discussions of surgery unless of course it is indicated and then you would be referred accordingly. Chiropractors believe in a non-invasive approach to wellness.

Chiropractic is a wonderful choice for treating neck pain. It is safe, effective and many people have had tremendous results. If you are looking for a drug-free and surgery-free approach to treating your neck pain then look no further than chiropractic. Chiropractic will be able to treat your neck pain and get you back to your normal life in no time.
