Over the past few years more and more research has gone into sperm cells and how they function, but a recent claim by Professor Karim Nayernia of the North East England Stem Cell Institute that he can actually now create sperm cells in a laboratory has hit a lot of controversy.
The same team in 2007 managed to grow mouse sperm from embryonic cells and used it to actually create baby mice. But this is an entirely different sector as you could say, this is actually bring human intelligent life into the world, after all the baby mice that were created all died after only a few months.
As mentioned above there are a lot of people complaining about the new findings, but there are also a vast amount of people saying that it may be a good thing, simply because of the fact that it could eventually help doctors treat infertile men.
Let's forget about the findings for a moment and think about this from an ethical point of view? Could it really work? And what would be the consequences of such actions if the law did permit these sperm cells to fertilise an egg.
Well personally I think that this is totally wrong to do, I mean as a fact each human should have a mother and a father. I mean what would the kids actually turn out like when they know that they were just something that was engineered from a laboratory; they will not have any feelings themselves. Besides from that what could be the health implications from creating sperm? I mean do we really know enough to be playing with life; do we really know each and every element that sperm may carry? If things went wrong we could be creating new mutated forms of human life that have no feelings and no love, which could ultimately lead to the destruction of the planet.
There are so many things to actually consider with this type of thing, but creating sperm could be a good thing, as it could help us find the cures for so many illnesses and diseases, which would make human expectancy maybe double. Technology is progressing at a very fast rate and we have to be careful about what we do with it and where we go with it, otherwise it could lead to a very different world then as we currently know it.
