The primary cause of rosacea has not been determined, although there are recent studies about overproduction of enzymes in the body that cause the blushing and reddening of the face brought about by rosacea. This is probably why remedies for rosacea are, until now, limited to prevention and avoiding the triggers.

As this chronic disease affects many people, many are also asking about remedies for the disease and even more are looking for natural remedies for rosacea hoping to avoid side effects and avoid creating more problems with their faces. Medical help can however be availed but some may also find their therapies unsuccessful.

It is important to note however that there is no cure to rosacea although medical treatments can be availed for controlling and eliminating the symptoms of the disease. Probably the best remedies for rosacea for now is some changes in the lifestyle and learning more about the factors that may trigger the outbreak of the disease. This may also include proper skin care and avoiding environmental factors that could worsen existing conditions.

If you are having symptoms and signs of the disease, avoiding these triggering factors may help you manage and cope up with rosacea. Triggers may vary from one sufferer to another but these are the most common ones that you should avoid.

* Skin care products and cosmetics that contain alcohol, witch hazel, menthol, peppermint or eucalyptus.

Products with fragrance have high possibilities of irritating the affected skin as some fragrances can cause allergies to the skin and may aggravate the symptoms of rosacea. Choose products without fragrances and those that are allergy-tested. You can also test the product on a small part of the neck before using it on the face to see if you are not allergic to it.

* Exposure to the sun and to extreme weather.

Avoid too much sun exposure. Harsh summer sun should also be avoided and you must use sunscreens with SPF 15 or higher. You can also wear protective clothing like scarf or mask for cold weather. Avoid a hot and humid day as well by avoiding the outdoors if you can.

* Too much stress.

With the busy life and demanding careers of today, stress has been around everywhere you go, and it is identified as the most common trigger for rosacea. You may not be able to avoid stressful situations but there are stress management techniques that can be very helpful in managing stress levels. Having enough sleep, eating healthy, doing moderate exercise such as stretching and practicing meditation can be your ways of reducing flare-ups of rosacea.

* Spicy food and alcoholic beverages.

Spicy food, hot coffee and beverages as well as alcoholic drinks may also worsen the symptoms of rosacea. Alcohol for instance is identified to cause flare-ups for most rosacea sufferers. You may still be able to enjoy your coffee but cool it down a little.

* Strenuous exercise.

Although exercise is needed for a healthy lifestyle, strenuous exercise should however be avoided. Exercise in moderation and do it in a few minutes thrice in a week.

For severe cases, remedies for rosacea may involve laser surgery to lessen the redness of the affected area.
