Eyelid Surgery can be performed in the office or hospital. You can go home the same day. Eyelid Surgery (blepharopasty) is a very popular procedure and is great for taking years off someone's appearance.

It is also useful in making one look less fatigued by eliminating those "bags" from under the eyes.

Skin and fat (pockets of fat are what makes the eyes look puffy) are removed from the upper lids and the incision closed near the natural skin crease of the eyelids so it will be well hidden. (The upper eyelid skin tends to heal exceptionally well.) The lower lids are done in a similar way. The incisions can be made just under the eyelashes where they too will be well hidden. In some patients, the fat can be removed from inside the lower lids and thereby leave no external traces at all. Following the procedure, you will have a younger, fresher looking appearance!

What Happens after my Surgery? Ice packs are applied immediately to reduce swelling. The eyelids can remain visibly swollen and bruised for up to two weeks. Sutures are removed after a few days and one can resume normal activity relatively quickly.

Common questions about eyelid surgery are: Will Eyelid Surgery affect my vision?

No. Eyelid surgery has no effect on vision or the eyeball. However, I would recommend that all patients see their eye doctor before this surgery to make sure they have no underlying visual problems.
I can't see because my eyelids are hanging over my eyes.

Am I a candidate for Eyelid Surgery? Definitely. The removal of upper eyelid skin and fat will solve your problem. In most cases health insurance will cover the cost of this procedure.

I have to look good for my Job. How much time off should I take from work? Allow two weeks for the swelling and bruising to subside before returning to work.

Care after the eyelid surgery - blepharoplasty
1. Your plastic surgeon will instruct you to keep your head elevated for several days.

2. Cold compresses are used to reduce swelling and bruising.

3. This lasts between several weeks to a month.

4. Doctors recommend eye drops since your eyelids may feel dry at first and your eyes may burn or itch.

5. For the first few weeks you may also experience excessive sensitivity to light.

6. Temporary changes in your eyesight, such as blurring or double vision.

7. Once the stitches are removed the swelling and discoloration around your eyes will gradually subside.
