Everyone out there who is trying to lose weight wants to know just what the secret is. Is there a way to do it faster and easier than someone else? If there was some "magic" pill or formula, few people in our country would be overweight. But there is no magic way.
However, the truth of the matter is losing weight is not as difficult as one would believe. By simply following these tips you will be able to shed stubborn, unwanted pounds. To be successful with this, you must be determined and dedicated. I know that you can do it!
1. Eating small meals every 2-3 hours will help a great deal. This may be very different from what you are used to do doing, but it is essential. By eating every few hours, beginning with a healthy breakfast, you will be able to keep your body supplied with the necessary nutrients throughout the day. Because you are eating more frequently, you will be less likely to "binge" eat or overeat because you are famished and have skipped a small meal. It will help regulate your blood sugar, thus encouraging your body to burn fat, not store fat. Eating every 2-3 hours is crucial to your success!
2. Paying attention to portion control is also extremely important. Do you usually fill your plate until it is overflowing with food? One way that works great for me is to choose a smaller size plate. A smaller size plate equals less food. I would suggest still paying attention to how much of each type of food that you place on your smaller plate. Your main source of meat (lean protein) should be no larger than the size of your closed fist. That should be followed by a fist size of carbohydrates followed up with plenty of fresh fruits or fresh vegetables. When pouring yourself a drink, make sure that it, too, is low-fat and is only 8 ounces. Too often we fill up gigantic plastic cups with soda or glasses with juice and ignore those serving sizes. Pay attention to any alcohol or flavored coffee drinks that you consume! They are loaded with unwanted calories and are usually 2-3 servings in one cup.
3. You have heard this one many times before. Drink lots of water. Your body is made up of mostly water and needs it to stay healthy and maintain a proper body weight. By drinking at least eight 8 ounce glasses, you will help your body stay hydrated. Another added benefit is that is helps your body to stay full. Many times we tend to grab a snack to eat when, in fact, our body simply needs a glass of water. Also, many of the other drinks that you have actually dehydrate you. For example, for every can of diet soda that you drink, you should drink a glass of water to counterbalance it. Speaking of soda, have you checked the label on a can of regular soda? Besides actually dehydrating you, it can have upwards of 100-150 calories per 8 ounce serving and 28-33 grams of sugar per 8 ounce serving. Stick with water!!!
4. No miracle weight loss would be complete without exercise. You may wish to avoid it, but, in truth, you need to burn off excess calories through physical fitness. This is a great way to burn calories and boost your metabolism. There are many easy and fun ways to do this. Go for a 30 minute walk or bike ride. What better way to see your neighborhood and unload added stress? For those of you who are ready for a more difficult challenge, weight lifting and running burn even more unwanted calories.
You can and will lose unwanted pounds and be on the way to a new healthier you if you follow these four tips. I have done it, and so can you!
