If you smoke cigarettes and you do it around anyone and everyone, you might not be as popular as you think you are. It is considered very rude these days to smoke around others, especially those that do not smoke, without asking permission first. Now many smokers might have their feathers a little ruffled by a statement like this, but these days it is absolutely true. Smoking is not nearly as socially acceptable as it used to be and it is in bad taste to go around lighting up your cigarettes without any regard for others. And do not be surprised if you light up sometime and get reprimanded by a non-smoker who will not be happy about you doing it.

Smoking etiquette, if you will, is not that difficult to understand. You have a right you smoke cigarettes or other tobacco products whenever and wherever you can as long as you are not harming or offending others with the smoke. When you do it around people that do not smoke and do not like it, you are infringing on their right to be in a smoke free zone, especially if it is in a public place. The rules concerning smoking are easy enough to understand and follow, just ask permission before you smoke if you are around other people.

If you are at a party in the home of a non-smoker and you know it, ask if there is somewhere you can go to smoke. They will likely be obliging and take you to a room or an outside area where you and others can smoke your head off if you like. If non-smokers can be considerate, then smokers should most definitely be. If the non-smoker is not obliging, then you should probably not accept any more invitations to their home if you can not go there without smoking.

It is already a law in so many places that you can not smoke is specific public places. Even in some bars it is no longer acceptable. Smokers really did not like it when this law was passed, but you have to realize that not everyone who wants to enjoy a few drinks smokes as well. It is hard to please everyone, but since it is your cigarette smoke that is harmful to others, you should have to be the one to make adjustments. You would not like it if you had to put up with someone wearing pesticide for perfume. That sounds a little ridiculous, but when you think about it from the point of view of a non-smoker, that is the same way they feel about your smoke. It is dangerous to them and they do not want to be around it.

As a smoker, you still have plenty of places where you can smoke, you have just had to make some adjustments in when and where you do it. It is alright for you to damage your own health, but it is not alright for to to intentionally damage the health of others.
