Panic disorder and agoraphobia are sub-forms of anxiety disorder. Normally the onset of these disorders starts during the childhood or adolescence stages; however, in certain cases these disorders may become noticeable during adulthood.

Although panic disorders and agoraphobia are categorized under anxiety disorder, the causes of these conditions are totally different.

When someone notices a kid about to fall out of a highchair, panic comes in, that encourages immediate action. Whether you are driving in a blizzard, being pushed through a crowd, standing atop the empire state building, on your way to funeral home or finding out that you loved one has been cheating on you, are all cases that have the potential to create panic or anxiety in a person.

However, for some, the fear of panic grows so strong and symptoms so intense that they start to change their behavioral patterns to avoid anxiety. Of the 2 to 6 million americans who experience or have experienced panic anxiety, about 5% have full blown panic disorders. So what triggers a person's initial panic attack, which could later lead to full blown panic disorder?

Research has shown a few clues about what may trigger this seemingly sudden and bizarre sense of terror and worry. Some scientists say that most patients suffer from a lot of stress and one final and almost unimportant thing sets an individual off. Other scientists believe that there are some people who are naturally exposed to hereditary panic attacks.

5-htt is a particular gene that is responsible for the synthesis and regulation of serotonin. Serotonin is a factor that can affect the development of anxiety and panic disorder. Environmental factors also can contribute in the development panic disorder; factors like stress can trigger an attack.

Stressful events in life like divorce, separation, recent demise, or loss of someone close; major life transitions may play their part to develop panic disorder.Childhood experiences can also cause anxiety to erupt. After this the panic attack cycle starts again.

In simple words, understanding the cause of panic disorder that triggers the foremost feeling of anxiety is the secret to breaking this cycle apart. Sufferers of recurring panic attack are advised to think about their conditions, situations, and emotions that they experience which causes the initial feeling of anxiety of panic cycle.

A person who has agoraphobia may show some common behavior patterns such as deliberate avoidance of stressful situations, looking for company in such situations, strongly unwilling to stay inside the car, airplane, and in crowded rooms, but the exact causes triggering agoraphobia are still unknown to the researchers.
