If you are a smoker and have tried so many times to quit and have not been able to be successful, you might have to seek medical help in order to ever accomplish your goal. Many people end up having to see their family doctor or use some other medical treatment facility in order to stop smoking cigarettes because it is so very difficult for most people. There are so many options available to help those that wish to kick the habit, but there is definitely no one size fits all cure for this addiction. Some people try one method and then another off and on for months or years until they stumble onto one that works for them. When it seems like you might have tried each and every one of them, seeking outside help might be the only option you have left.

Smoking is a serious addiction and with smokers it has been going on for years. Where an addict that uses some other drug might use theirs 3 to 5 times a day, depending on the drug of course, an average smoker will usually light up 20 or more times a day, every day. When you are accustomed to doing something that many times each day, just adapting to not lighting the cigarettes is hard to stop doing and then there is the addiction to the nicotine and smoking sensation itself.

Taking other drugs to help you get over an addiction to something else might not be the best solution, but for many smokers it might be the only one left. Your doctor can prescribe certain pills that are now on the available to help with quitting smoking. There are some possible side affects with these however and some of them can be pretty serious. They can cause depression and other issues and in some cases even suicidal thoughts. They work differently for some than they do for others. Some people say they worked to help them quit while others say they were not that affective and they are also expensive because you have to use the pills for at least a month or two, sometimes longer.

Although smoking cigarettes is bad, you also do not want to take a pill that might be as bad or worse on you than smoking itself. Thoughts of killing yourself is pretty bad. There are other medications a doctor might give you while you are trying to quit such as anxiety medication or anti depressants, although these drugs can have side affects too. The choice is up to you whether seeking medical intervention is your solution.
