Panic attacks are described as repeated instances of extreme fear and discomfort accompanied by symptoms like accelerated heartbeats and shortness of breath. These instances are known as panic attacks and can last from a few minutes to hours. Panic attacks normally occur without any warning or the sufferer not able to foresee the upcoming disordered situation.
There are a number of symptoms associated with an anxiety or panic attack, the most common symptom of panic attack is an accelerated heartbeat and intense feelings of fear and danger. Usually these attacks last from 5 minutes to 30 minutes, and in some situations up to hours. Sometimes anxiety or panic attacks results when children minds detect a sudden danger or in some cases without warning.
The main symptoms of a panic attack in children and adults include racing heartbeat, shortness of breath, intense fear ( a fear of dying or a fear of going crazy), trembling or shaking, dizziness (caused by rapid breathing), feelings of not being in real world. In children, anxiety or panic attacks can interfere in the life of a child like affecting his or her ability to make relations, schoolwork, & usual healthy development of the child.
For some children the situation becomes so intense that they avoid going out of their homes fearing that a panic attack might hit them. These situations normally be going to school or college, or being separated from their spouse and siblings.Panic attacks can influence both, a child relations with his or her family and other people in the society like at school, which can result in poor grades.
When a child expects anxiety and panic attacks, often times they will develop a constant state of fear or anxiousness, because they expect recurring panic attacks to occur. In severe situations the children who will are suffering from panic attacks will start avoiding going out of their homes or to certain places. This condition is called agoraphobia.
