They say as you get older your body changes and aches and pains are normal. However, when minor discomforts become more than occasional, it's time to seek medical attention. You don't have to live with pain; no matter how mild or severe and chiropractic care can help.

Many individuals don't even consider a chiropractic care approach because they don't quite understand what the treatment entails. Chiropractic treatment is a health care focused on the structure and function of the musculoskeletal system and nervous system and how the relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.

Chiropractors perform an examination to get a diagnosis followed by appropriate treatment, which may consist of manipulation (chiropractic adjustments) of the spine and/or other joints involved. Chiropractors use physical therapy methods such as exercise and nutrition counseling when necessary.

Chiropractic treatment is based largely on the perception that restricted movement in the spine can lead to pain and reduced function. Spinal adjustment or manipulation is just one method of therapy used by chiropractors use to treat restricted spinal mobility. The main objective is to restore normal spinal movement to decrease back pain and improve function.
What is spinal adjustment/manipulation?

When manipulation or adjustments are performed, chiropractors use their hands to apply a controlled, but sudden force to a joint. You've heard of people "popping" a shoulder or a joint back into place. Well, this is exactly what a chiropractor does by pushing the joint beyond its normal range of motion.

Other methods used by chiropractors are stretching and massage to relax the affected muscles. In addition to stretching and massage, treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and exercises may be required.
What is ultrasound?

In an effort to correct spinal joint misalignments and restore the nervous system to its normal condition, chiropractors use many different forms of the healing. Another form of therapy that has become popular with chiropractors is the ultrasound therapy.
Ultrasound is a high frequency sound that is out of the range of the human ear, but in the case of alternative medicine, ultrasound is known as therapeutic ultrasonography. Ultrasonography is the use of high frequency sounds to picture the subcutaneous structures inside the body, e.g., the muscles, joints, tendons, vessels, and internal organs. There is no pain involved with having an ultrasound.

What is electrical stimulation?

Electrical stimulation is a treatment method that utilizes controlled neuromuscular electrical stimulation to strengthen the muscles. The electrical current causes the muscle or group of muscles to contract. This contraction actually helps to strengthen injured or damaged muscles and promote natural healing. Contrary to how it might sound, "electrical" stimulation is not painful.

Chiropractors use many different therapies to restore the mobility of their patients, which is why it is considered alternative medicine. Whether it is with light, heat, electricity, or any other alternative treatment methods, the combination of techniques focused on problems with the musculoskeletal and nervous systems can eliminate pain and give you back the mobility you once had. Remember, you don't have to live with pain.
